Information we collect

Seller accounts

When you register as a seller, we collect your name, email address, phone number, optional WhatsApp number, location, and an optional bio. Your phone, WhatsApp, and email are shown to logged-in users who click "Show contact details" on any listing you post — that is the core purpose of the site, so treat those fields as public once you publish a listing.

Buyers

Browsing, searching, and viewing listings does not require an account; viewing a seller's contact details does. Listings you save with the heart icon are stored only in your own browser (localStorage) and are never sent to us.

Usage data

We log page views and "contact details revealed" events against each listing/service (no personal identifiers attached to the buyer) so sellers can see basic performance stats for their own listings.

Cookies

We use a session cookie to keep you logged in and a preference cookie to remember your chosen language (English/Afrikaans). Both are functional, not tracking/advertising cookies.

How we use your information

• To operate your account and display your listings.
• To show your contact details to a logged-in user when they choose to reveal them.
• To send password-reset emails when you request one.
• To moderate listings and investigate reports of abuse.
• To show you basic view/contact-reveal statistics for your own listings.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Sharing with third parties

If you configure an outbound email provider (SMTP) for password resets, that provider processes the recipient email address solely to deliver that email. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.

Data retention

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove your personal information and listings, except where we are required to keep records for legal reasons.

Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
• Ask us to delete your account and associated personal information.
• Object to how we process your information.
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe we have handled your data unlawfully.

Security

Passwords are never stored in plain text — they are hashed before being saved. Your login session is stored in an HTTP-only cookie that JavaScript on the page cannot read.

Children

Buyer2Seller is intended for users 18 years and older.
